Performing Arts Centre of Free States (PACOFS)

Communication Science students (2nd year and 3rd year levels) took an educational excursion to Bloemfontein-Performing Arts Centre of Free States (PACOFS). They were invited by PACOFS Marketing Officer Maseeta Makgabane to watch Athol Fugard supposedly last play in his theatre life: The Shadow of the Hummingbird. They also paid the Department of Communication Science at UFS a visit where they were given a lecture on the structure of the department. Afterwards, they had a tour around the campus.

They had the privilege to meet an international artist, producer and artistic director, Mr. Jerry Mofokeng. Mr. Abia gave an industrious presentation on theatrical interpretation and art. Awesome workshop was also delivered by Pule Lechesa on journalism at large. The trip was industrious, educational and an eye-opener, on both the students and the lecturer and so the Department of Communication Science.

2014 OPEN DAY at UNIZULU enlightens Young Minds
Phila Zibani

On the 21st and 22nd of August 2014, the University of Zululand (UNIZULU) did it again by hosting another successful annual Open Day event. Schools from various areas around KwaZulu Natal flooded King Bhekuzulu Hall to gain insight on programmes offered at UNIZULU.

Each and every department delegated a few students with potential to represent them at their stand on this particular event. The purpose of the event was to expose  high school learners to student life and visit UNIZULU facilities; meet staff members and discuss questions related to various fields of study, career opportunities, tuition fees, bursaries, loans and other matters; meet potential sponsors from various companies.

The department of Communication Science did a great job by participating in this event. Communications and Marketing division had a well organised event.

The Diploma in Public Relations students from City Campus  attended the annual PRISA (Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa) conference held in Durban on the 31st July 2014 at the Durban City Hall.

The accredited professional body invited 250 students from five different institutions to the event.

Well known author and academic, Chris Skinner was elated that the event was able to achieve its goal of bringing together students from various institutions and professionals to network about the Public Relations profession.

Students were very enthusiastic as many speakers in the field of Public Relations graced the stage.

A favourite being Philani Mabaso, AmaZulu's Football Club's Public Relations officer who told them about life as a PRO in the sporting industry.
